"NSCLC survey"

   Hello all,

My first post was on August 10, about my fathers cancer and his supplements.

this is the link to my first post in 'topics other than DCA' conf:

http://www.thedcasite.com/dcaforum/DCForumID10/504.html

My father got both chemo-radiotherapy and DCA with some other supplemets concurrently.

He was diagnosed NSCLC-scc in july-2009. He had a PET scan (july09) and CT scan revealing a 3,8 cm tumour at his right main bronchus. And now after his treatment (chemo-radio-DCA) his last CT scan and PET scan revealed that his tumour shrunk to 1 cm, with a clean PET, CT and MRI(brain) otherwise. This means tumour did not metastatised to anywhere. All his doctors was amazed because they did not expect such an encouraging result as his tumour was very agressive (SUVmax: 51). These results led the Doctors to re-stage the disease and now a surgery is being planned in this month to excise the remaining tumour. The planning procedure is called sleeve lobectomy.
I think adding DCA to his chemo-radio helped my father a lot and the tumour shrunk more than doctors prediction.
Surgery for this disease is not prolonging the life expectancy but is for managing the local recurrence.
We are trying many alternatives so I think the debulking of the tumour might help him a lot.
My father used DCA for 3 months, he stoped taking it due to PN. He is waiting for the surgery date now.

Best wishes to all,
please pray for us.

Hang in there, Zehra! All I can really say is continue to learn about disease and keep educating yourself- it is power.

We are rooting for you both.

I hope so, too. It helps to keep in mind that disease is a sign/symptom of something- it doesn't appear out of the blue. Check out the "Creating Health" portion of this forum - there are some gems there.

Hi! I'm new to the forum, but not to cancer. Did I understand correctly that your father stopped taking the DCA because of neuropathy, or numbness? I am a chemo survivor, and had 12 rounds of Taxol. mid-way thru, I began having numbness to my right foot and right fingers. My oncologist said her hope was it would improve once I stopped chemo. However... for some, it gets worse. Mine has gotten worse. My fingers can go completely white. But!! I only say that because, no matter what route you choose, you have to accept that there will be side effects. And just try to make the best decision you can to save your life. If your father's doctors are that amazed, that they are putting off chemo... That is a-m-a-z-i-n-g!! My oncologist couldn't get me into chemo fast enough, or keep me there!! Prayers for your dad's continued recovery!

   update on my fathers therapy:

after first 3 round of chemo and RT plus DCA and many other supplements, my fathers previously inoperable tumour was restaged.
Although surgery for RT treated patients is not common due to
post operative complications, surgents concluded to operate him.
A sleeve lobectomy was performed and the results were awesome.
Post operative pathology report revealed that the tumour is very
limited, all the lymph nodes were tumour negative (including the one which were positive before-subcarinal LN).
One interesting point was; all the lymph nodes revealed sinusoidal
histiositosis. (does this has a meaning??)
it may be because of any therapy he used.
after the surgery, he had 3 doses of taxotere.
he used DCA by that time. last CT revealed that he is cancer free
(brain+lung+hepatic and surrenal sites were clear)
(post operatively he used DCA for 4 months- he had to stop DCA twice, because of PN)
now he is on anvirzel+ artemisinin+ germanium.
he takes beta-glucan (via mushrooms), shark liver oil, vit d3,
melatonin, LDN, green tea-(curcumin in turn), vanoxyl sulf.
2 months later a new check up is scheduled. hope this is not a
temporary result and he will live a long life with us.
best wishes to all,
