"Stage 4 Lung Cancer - Rob O'Connor"

(I'm posting this for Ina & Rob)

Stage 4 Lung Cancer - Rob O'Connor

On Jan 14th, 2002, Rob was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. As an RN in the community, I quickly researched MD's in the area and made an appointment with the one that seemed to be the best. However, the pulmonologist who diagnosed Rob felt he was untreatable and canceled the appointment. As a result we decided to take fractionated chemo with Seattle Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center. There Rob was under the care of naturopaths, MDs and acupuncturists. We made many trips on Friday morning from Eugene, OR to Seattle for treatment. We made it our weekly vacation.

We gave new meaning to "doing everything". The foundation for our program was based on a very large vegetable intake, using a VitaMix twice a day, keeping blood sugar low, and Centering Prayer Mediation. We used many alternative therapies as well. In the meantime, because of the way chemo is administered at SCTWC and the naturopathic support and acupuncture, Rob was able to maintain his law practice for 4 years. At this point he closed his practice and even though he finished 11 of the 12 chemo treatments, he was not doing well and I thought the end was near.

Fortuitously, a friend sent us a standardized Goji Juice product and he began to get better from that point. He was in remission for two years when some spots showed up in his left lung and liver. We watched them for 4 months and there was a small change so we started another 12 sessions of chemo. Unfortunately after about 4 treatments he began to have problems and we finally decided that Rob had had enough chemo. His naturopath, Dr. Mark Gignac told us about DCA and how some people were doing extremely well with it.

To make a long story short, 6 months later Rob is doing very well. He feels good, he doesn't have cancer symptoms and we are enjoying life. He continues to take his Goji juice and DCA.

In this long journey, we have learned a lot. Foremost, I feel is, as much as possible; get the things that contribute to cancer risk out of your life. Secondly, don't put your eggs in one basket there are many things that can help. If 3 things help a little, put them together and you just may get more than 3 times the benefit. Thirdly don't make yourself a statistic. Those are about average people. Through effort you can do much better than average. In addition, when you know someone facing a possible cancer diagnosis, make sure they get a second opinion (different medical center, maybe out of town). Seattle Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center have many cancer free patients that were told to go home and die.

This is an outline of our 7 1/2 years with NSCLC. When Dr. Chue, our oncologist, goes to medical conferences, people do not believe him. It is considered impossible. Especially considering that Rob almost certainly still has cancer it just isn't bothering him much. Remember, most cancer patients die of infection or malnutrition not the effects of the tumor.

I hope this story will be encouraging to you if you or your family member are on a cancer journey.

Sincerely Yours,

Ina O'Connor, RN

ADDITIONAL NOTE:

In addition to the information in the attachment, Rob started out with 10 mg per kg or 500 mg per day. After about 3 months, we increased it to 2 grams a day, but he seemed to have more neuropathy so we sent back to 1 gm per day. He is not a good tea drinker, but I am encouraging it more. He takes at least 400 mg of BV1 a day. It is hard to tell, but I think he does better when a good portion of that comes from a B complex supplement.

I can say this story makes me so happy that I do have tears in my eyes. I think people like you and your husband are more than human your angels. The people here who fight so hard against the meanest foe on the planet will one day make the world stand on its ear.

You keep this up and enjoy your time of grace - it will last - its real.

Its strange for me when I was banned from CCA because of defending myself and all of us when their Blog called those of us taking DCA Quacks!

I was a member there and pretty much taken aback thinking these folks like us were sent home to die or given the option to be a big pharma lab rat - an option we jumped at by the way - but it failed terribly causing liens cancer to spread even more. I mean from one spot to so many you could not count in three weeks!

I did not understand how anyone could defend a medical perspective until I realized they had created hope out of pure will and a warriors defiant spirit.

I challenged those people to meet me after the first year to see if we were quacks or not. I felt like I needed to stand my ground for the right of my wife's free choice.

It sounds righteous and for me I felt so defiant and angry at those who told my best friend to go home and die. Grrrr how dare they - anyway it will have been three years this November.

I am so sad to think of those great people who were calling us quacks might no longer with us and they could well have been one of our famous remission stories. I could have handled things so much better and if I had - who knows.

I digress but have to share with those I love and admire so much.
Thank you for you story - as you can see it was very powerful and inspiring.

God Bless Us All

Great news from Ina & Rob. Thanks for posting their story. Is there a contact email address for Ina & Rob? I wanted to ask them how much goji juice they are taking per day.

I think that CCA is a typo for DCA. My email is inaandrob@nwi.net. Good Luck with your program.
