I don't understand the stages of cancer. If you have stage 4 melanoma is it considered terminal?

I have also asked in http://www.caring.com/questions/i-dont-understand-the-stages-of-cancer-if-you-have-stage-4 but received no response. I have also heard that antioxidants pose no melanoma threat, is it true?
