"Naltrexone & Alpha Lipoic Acid Combination"

In the latest issue of Integrative Cancer Therapies, a case of 3 patients with pancreatic cancer were treated with intravenous alpha lipoic acid and low dose naltrexone. What's astonishing is that the patients are still alive, 2 of which were already cancer free based on their PET scan.

Would anyone care to speculate what the action is?

Here some detailed information about the treatment with intravenous alpha lipoic acid and oral low-dose naltrexone:

http://www.ldn4cancer.com/techpapers/berkson-pancreatic-cancer-survivor-paper-2007.pdf

The ALA-LDN protocol comprised alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) (300 to 600 mg intravenously twice weekly), low-dose naltrexone (Vivitrol™)(3 to 4.5 mg at bedtime), and orally, ALA (300 mg twice daily), selenium (200 micrograms twice daily), silymarin (300 mg four times daily), and vitamin B complex (3 high-dose capsules daily). In addition, he maintained a strict dietary regimen, performed a stress-reduction and exercise program, and led a healthy lifestyle. Remarkably, after just one treatment of intravenous ALA his symptoms began to disappear, his quality of life improved, and he had no unwanted side effects.

Hello michele lee, I think R-ALA is the right decision (R version of ALA is more bioavailable), here you can order it.

   Thank you both.

ALA seems like a good example of what you have to be careful not to take in combination with the wrong things though. It raises glutathione levels and lowering glutathione levels is the strategy behind L-thianine, ginger, and garlic. If it enhances mitochondria function (I would think it would also be contra-indicated with paw-paw). Glutathione is contra-indicated for chemo as well. ALA and other chelators are contra-indicated in conjunction with Antabuse, which I take with copper to form dithiocarbamate complexes, which create proteasome inhibitors.

Dr. Berkson has also remarked that patients who do NOT follow the diet, don't do as well. Here's his clinic contact info:

http://www.drberkson.com/officeinfo.html

And, the mechanism of action for LDN is here:

Best wishes,
Sandra

I think everyone should view the videos of Dr Berkson's presentation in Glasgow in 2009.

I've pasted the links to them below. I think they'll make you go hmmmmm.

You owe it to yourself and/or loved one to add this option to your armory.

Also listen to the interview you can find at this address.

If this works, why does he only have a handful of successful cases to talk about? What are the percentage of successful treatments?

I can't answer the questions about how many pts he has had successes with. I have no connection to this physician. Have never even talked to him.

I suspect the ones he presents are for the effect of being most dramatic to physicians who might be at the conferences or reading the articles.

Dr Bihari - the guy who first used Low Dose Naltrexone to treat cancers - didn't publish details very much either.

However, I really am a pharmacist who practices in a hospital that treats many cancer patients - and I have a keen interest in Translational Oncology Research. I am also a very skeptical reviewer and require a lot of hard evidence to back up the claims I finally endorse.

I've been studying the body of knowledge for Low Dose Naltrexone for awhile, and have read the works of Dr Zagon (who discovered the low dose naltrexone effect and has extensively researched the effects of Opiate Growth Factor and the OGF receptor on cancer progression) and other researchers several times.

I believe this is a real tool that can be easily integrated into your DCA regimens.

In fact, this case study from this site shows improved response after LDN was integrated into the patient's protocol - http://www.thedcasite.com/Alternate_therapies/NSCLC_Case.html .

You can check my conclusions by checking out Bihari and Zagon's work. Just google them. You can also start tracking them from these links - http://thatcrazypharmacist.com/?p=497 and http://thatcrazypharmacist.com/?p=509 . I think there are some VERY important links to info you can use in those posts.

I believe in DCA. I also believe in LDN and the LDN - Alpha lipoic Acid protocol Dr Berkson talks about.

Hope this helps.

Steve
