I had not heard about the polysacharides. I thought most of the benefit of aloe is due to the emodin content. Emodin is removed from all the aloe products sold in the U.S.

Emodin

Emodin is a plant compound found in rhubarb, buckthorn and aloe vera. It belongs to a family of compounds called anthraquinones, which have shown anti-inflammatory and anticancer effects. Emodin is known to have several anti-cancer properties including promoting apoptosis, inhibiting angiogenesis and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) 1-3. A study found that it had “strong effect” against tumor migration making it a weapon against metastasis 4.
Emodin enhanced chemotherapeutic drugs used in prostate cancer cells through “ROS-mediated suppression of multidrug resistance and hypoxia inducible factor- 1 5.” The author concluded “emodin… may be recognized an effective adjunctive to improve efficacy of cytotoxic drugs in prostate cancer cells with over-activated HIF-1 and potent MDR 5.”
Aloe emodin (AE) was found to act as an antioxidant at low doses and pro-oxidant at higher doses 6. It selectively induced apoptosis in neuroblastoma cells. “Taking into account its unique in vitro and in vivo antitumor activity, selective toxicity, and cellular pharmacokinetics, AE can be viewed as a conceptually new lead anticancer agent that might contribute to the development of targeted nontoxic drugs 7.” It was also found to upregulate the tumor suppressor P53 gene while killing mutant P53 genes in neuroblastoma 8. It inhibited cervical cancer cells in a dose-dependent manner at the G2/M phase 9.
Emodin was found to reverse multidrug in lung cancer 10 and reversed resistance to Taxol in vivo in breast cancer by inhibiting tyrosine phosphorylation of human lung HER-2/neu transfectants. (Clinical Cancer Research Vol. 5, 343-353, February 1999)
Emodin is available from Chinese suppliers and can be purchased over the Internet from www.sciphar.com. Aloe emodin and cnidiadin extract are available from Xi’an Sino-Herb Biotechnology Co., Ltd or www.tradeindia.com.

The aloe recipe by Father Romano Zago has been used in Italy for quite a while now. Whether it works or not I'm not sure about it.
