"University Of Alberta"

I am wondering how many doctors and researchers and other universities are interested in the work Evangelos Michelakis is doing. I bet a good strategy to get in under the radar and colaberate and get inside information on this work would be to sponsor and send some highly qualified grad students to the Universtiy of Alberta as students and such. It would probobly look good on a resume as well for them. Our universtiy is having a recruitment drive for students and we have a limited budget for recruiting. Alberta oil companies are paying a lot for labour so we have less students and more openings here. (uofa has really only itself to blame there, with incremental contributions). Anyhow if you decide to come study here buy some local clothes for the cooler parts of the year. -- http://www.ualberta.ca/

Did you see that the U of A forced Jim to remove the link to the clinical trial donation page? Guess they don't want our money.

U of A wasn't even the first one to use DCA in cancer research. If one was to listen to them, it would sound like he is the first person to ever think of it let alone do studies on it.
Here are two patents that showed DCA used with lipoic acid where the DCA doubled the rate of tumor kill.
United States Patent 6,331,559
Bingham , et al. December 18, 2001

Lipoic acid derivatives and their use in treatment of disease

"... This second reagent is preferably an inhibitor of mitochondria energy metabolism and/or one that induces apoptosis. Such reagents include metabolism inhibitory reagents. Many such reagents are known in the art. One particularly preferred reagent is dichloroacetate. This second reagent may be administered sequentially, simultaneously or separately, so as to amplify patient response to said treatment method."

and an example in an earlier patent:

..."This was tested in this Example with dichloroacetate (henceforth abbreviated DCA)(8)...."
..."We find that the cells of the experimental subset are killed approximately twice as rapidly as in the control subset."...
The experimental subset had DCA while the standard had the lipoic acid by itself.
... So both of these patents I am sure also have studies associated with them that were published. Yet Dr. M doesn't have any of this noted in his work. Maybe he is just weak on research. Or maybe he is hedging his bet for money and fame. I find his inability to recognize earlier research appalling.

Actually you can skip last question. I found it: also looks like Cornerstone Pharmaceutaicles may have picked up this patent but not really sure if I'm getting it straight as there is not a lot of information on their website.
maybe someone else would have better luck.

Marilyn
