"Sandra"

Sandra passed away peacefully at 6:00 this evening, surrounded by loving family and friends. She loved this forum and the many, many friends she made here. Sandra's encyclopedic knowledge and compassion touched many lives, mine especially. She will be missed.

This is really sad news. I had never met Sandra, but loved her like one of my best friends. Ι admired her courage to fight the terrible disease up to the end, and help people at the same time.
Farewell Sandra. You will stay in our heart for ever.

My sister Maria faces a difficult situation at this moment but is still fighting hard.

How very sad to read this news. Like many of you, Sandra has been inspirational in her work on this site and gave us, well me especially, a feeling of confidence in what we were trying to achieve with the use of DCA and other therapies. She will be missed. My condolences to all of those who knew her personally.

   Parachute,

I hadn't visited this site since I gave up on DCA when it caused tingling in my feet in Nov 07, and it took about 2 years to subside, extremely slowly. I thought is was permanent. The "chemo fog" and loss of mental energy were also a welcome absence that was very noticeable within a day or so of stopping DCA.

I'm extremely saddened to hear of Sandra's death. She was an amazing cancer researcher and an authoritative source of information. I've spent a lot time researching, but couldn't hold a candle to Sandra's frequently different perspective and additional info.

If I remember correctly, at diagnosis, she was given only a few months, and stretched that out to 4 or 5 years.

Thanks for all the info and generous email friendship, Sandra.

Requiescat In Pace

===========

It's been a bad week. Last weekend, my long-time and close friend "Boy" died:

I am so sorry to hear that Sandra lost her battle. She was so informative and helped me so very much. I am glad she had the years instead of months. I have made it 1 year and 6 months so far. She will be greatly missed.

That sucks. I'm still pretty new to this site and as I've been searching through posts trying to gather information, I kept coming accross Sandra's words and advice. Just last night I was on here looking for information...I came accross something from Sandra and thought "what a smart person this Sandra sounds like!". It's very sad to hear but I'm sure she is finally able to relax and I hope those of you that knew of her better can take comfort in knowing that her wisdom and help will live on through this place of healing!

We can all just keep the fight going and pick up the torch for her.

I've taken advice from Sandra's earlier posts and for that...thank you Sandra!

What am I supposed to do now? I came here to ask Sandra a question. She was always here ready with an answer.

I don't know much about her but I do know I will miss her. I do so right now, a lot. And many others must miss her also.

I want to thank you all for your kind words & the love & respect you had for her. SHE WAS AMAZING WOMEN, MOTHER & WIFE!
She was a tireless patriark of this site who took a personal interst in each persons personal fight against this horrible desiease
She had no formal training but had the mental capability of an engineer to understand & rationalize. She actually had returned to college to become an engineer until she was diagnosed with her breast cancer in December of 04.
That's when her life changed & she became enamored in research. She became known at home as "DR SANDRA" She wasn't about "quack" medicine, she wanted the facts & it had to be per reviewed. Her capibility to recall, rationalize & understand put her in the upper eshalon of experts in the field of cancer.
'As all of you can attest to she was extemly intelligent, & knowledgable in every aspect of the cancer field. She lived on her MAC day & night. For five years ( the doctors gave her two) she tenasously endevored to "BEAT THE MONSTER" that dwelled inside her helping a endless number of people along the way that became dear close friends.
I AM SO PROUD OF HER !!!!
Sandra was a solid Christian that knew where she would be if GOD called her home. When she was first diagnosed we decided that we wanted QUALITY of LIFE rather than QUANTITY for her. This was one of the hardest desisions we made but it was the right one for her & us as a family. But let me make it very clear SHE WANTED TO LIVE!
She left behind two of the greatest sons a man could ever ask for, bringing them up as only a mother full of love & desire could.
She was an accomplished "rocketer", photographer, interior designer, schooler of everything. And had the sweetest sprit & heart you could ever imagine. She was as close to an angle as could be possible! Not to mention an absolute "knock out in the looks department" ( I am bias, smirk).
I would encourage you to visit her FLICKER SITE (Sandra Hiles)& see the world from her eyes ....you will be amazed & blessed I promise!
I want to say Thank you to Jim, Ilean, Heather, Ranny, & many others her that became our extended family, that loved her, encouraged her & accepted her for who she was , Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Chris
